Apache Tears

Myths and Legends Collection

Apache Tears are found around Superior, Arizona and are more than just a piece of black obsidian they hold a deeper meaning. there is haunting legend about the Apache Tear Drop.

Apache Tears MEMORY

The legend is about the 75 brave Apache warriors who died, but with them had died the great fighting spirit of the Pinal Apaches. The spirits were greatly saddened and made a stone where the tears of the Apache women and their loved ones hit the ground called the Apache Tear.

When the women and children discovered their beloved husbands, fathers, and sons dead at the bottom of the cliff, they began to weep. And as their tears fell, black stones were formed on the white, sandy earth for every tear that hit the ground.

Some believe that those who possess an Apache Tear will never cry again because the Apache women cried enough for the one who holds the stone.

These beautiful stones are more than just volcanic glass; they are a legend, a form of strong love, and a healing stone.
